Rain of Heaven
“You, O God, sent a plentiful rain, whereby You confirmed Your inheritance, when it was weary, Your congregation dwelt in it.” (Psalm 68:9-11)
As we come to the end of Winter and Spring in Israel, we understand very well that Israel has been in a severe drought over this last 6 months. Israel lives and exists in God’s agricultural cycle, and the agricultural cycle coincides, and runs in tandem with the annual Moedim (God’s Feast days). These cycles, seasons and Moedim are all connected with the produce from the land. As earth and heaven become one, the earth, the soil, the heavens, the rain, the dew, and the sun, each needing one another in this agricultural cycle. Too much of any or too little of any will not cause our vats to overflow and our barns to be full.
The first month is the first month of the biblical New Year in the month of Nisan – April). Israel received the former rains during the Fall Moedim (Fall Feasts) in September/October and the latter rains come in the Spring Moedim (Spring Feasts) in March/April. This winter Israel only had 50% of the needed rainful. The rainful in the winter months is needed to sustain the agriculture and production of food from the ground during the hot, dry summer months, and with the firstfruits of the crops in each season, we acknowledge God in the appropriate Moedim.
This winter in Israel has been the driest in a century and the driest winter on record. The level of the Sea of Galilee even dropped during February 2025 when it is supposed to rise, an unusual phenomenon highlighting this winter’s extreme dryness, along with an exceptionally low flow from the Jordan river.
The Northern part of Israel received a fuller volume of rainfall. However, the south in the Negev desert, where much of Israel’s vegetables and fruits grow, had the least rainfall. The farmers are already distressed about their fields and orchards knowing this lack of rain will damage the crops and produce poorer quality and less quantity.
Israel relies heavily on the desalinization for water. The Israeli water company do have good management of water and proper preparation and strategic planning, however, this may not be enough, as the farmers have said, “we need the rain of heaven.”
Factually, we know that the world is undergoing a major ecological shift, nonetheless, God is in control of His people and nation and guides and steers the agricultural cycle and seasons because of His Moedim.
Israel is forecast to experience severe weather changes, including extreme heatwaves and drought
Our President has declared that Israel will face climate disasters this summer. Israel is the only nation mentioned in the Bible that God is looking upon to open up the heavens and send the rain, in its season, or close the heavens.
And this is the point I want to make in this update: why did Israel not have a proper rainfall this winter? Why did God not send us a full supply of rain?
Maybe this verse will tell us, from the words of King Solomon:
Israel is a land that "..drinks rain from heaven." (Deut. 11:11)
Pray that the God of Israel would hear our prayer to ask Him to forgive us as a people and a nation for all our sins, our wickedness we commit against Him, and He will be merciful, for His name’s sake, and break the drought.
Pray for a final, end of winter, full downpour of rain that will replenish, and deeply moisten the land, especially in the agricultural areas.
Pray He will preserve us during the coming extremely hot summer months, and do miracles to protect the produce of food for His people.
I want to recommend a wonderful Netflix documentary called Kiss the Ground. In it, you will see the wonder of nature God has ordained for the earth, the soil, and its connection with heaven, to work as one, as one can’t work without the other in its fullest capacity, as God ordained it to produce food from the earth.
Today is the first day of the joyous festival of Purim from the book of Esther. Esther may not be a frequent turn-to in your devotionals or one you hear taught
For everything there is a season, as Solomon wisely wrote. Seasons are marked by dates, life events, changing circumstances and even...
Tomorrow night (Saturday) Jewish families, both secular and religious, in Israel and in the nations, will gather around their tables for the traditional Passover meal, the first feast of the biblical year. A growing number of believers will also join in retelling the Exodus story of deliverance from bondage and slavery into freedom.
